About Negombo

Delicately placed on the shores of a lagoon, Negombo Sri Lanka is only a short distance away from the Capital city of Colombo, yet remains untouched from the hustle and bustle of much development activity, having retained its charm and beauty of old. The beautiful city of Negombo Sri Lanka with its amazing views of the resplendent ocean and palm-lined coastline, used to be an established trading port of both the Portuguese and the Dutch. A network of canals established by the Dutch several centuries ago for transporting cinnamon and spices from Colombo, still functions as an active waterway in the area.

Negombo weather is generally tropical with seasonal monsoon rains.
