Popularly known to be one of the best beaches in Asia, the Nilaveli Beach, Trincomalee, is a stretch of shore-land, with swathes of crystal white sands, tenderly meeting the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. The Nilaveli beach, Trincomalee is an ideal place to experience plain and simple tranquility. The Uppuveli beach too is one of the Trincomalee attractions.
The Trincomalee hot springs too are certainly worth a visit. A high wall provides an enclosure to the 7 natural hot wells. The water is mildly hot, but can be touched. The Thirukonesvaram temple which is said to house the Swayambhu Lingam is one of Sri Lanka’s most important Hindu sites and is thus one of the main Trincomalee attractions. This temple is placed on top of the famous Swami rock as is the Lover’s Leap, which is a 130m cliff.
Fort Fredrick which is the famous old Fort built originally by the Portuguese, The Hoods Tower Museum which is one of the most interesting naval museums, and Pigeon Island which is a small island off-shore are also popular Trincomalee attractions.
